Armin Hary of West Germany sets the world record in the 100 meters at Zurich, Switzerland in 1960. He was the first human being to run the 100 meters in 10.0 flat! Hary has the fastest start ever record in any sport, even to this day - 00.08 seconds!!!

At the 1936 Berlin, Germany Olympic Games, Jesse Owen wins the 100 meters mens final in the first commercial television broadcast of any significant size. There were only a few thousand early TV sets sold in Germany and England in 1936 (non in the US or anywhere else). This broadcast was 3 years before the first TV images shown to an American public at the New York World's Fair in 1939.
Jesse Owen won the race with an incredible time for the era of 10.3 seconds! Considering the era, the track, and the sports technology at the time, Owen's winning mark was just shy of his world-record of 10.2 set earlier in 1936.
Adolf Hitler was in the stands to watch this history sports event.

Ever eat deep fried sparrow? How about seahorse or snakeskin? Swing by Beijing for the 2008 Olympics and stop by the Dinghy Men or Wangfujing Food Market and have an odd delicacy on a stick.
Here is my take-out order at Donghua Men:
"Ahhh.....I'll like to place my order to go please. I'll have a portion of fried sparrows, a cup of seahorses, and bowl of small worms. Oh, oh.....a diet coke as well. I need to watch my figure, so no noddles...."
Okay, food prejudice aside. It may be a bit unusual, but this type of cuisine is all protein. You can live without grains and starches, but not protein!
The spectacular 2008 Olympic opening ceremony was no surprise to viewers who saw other events leading up to the big opening show. Look at what China did at the Miss Tourism Queen International a couple months ago - a super theater production show that would even make Hollywood jealous.
What a beautiful show! The best I've seen at any international or major beauty pageant.

PS. There is a very strong tie, influence, and history between Asia and Peru. Especially China, Japan, and more recently South Korea. There are millions of people in Peru with Chinese and Japanese-Peruvian heritage.
China has one of the world's oldest people and continuous civilizations, consisting of states and cultures dating back more than six millennia. It has the world's longest continuously used written language system, and is the source of such major inventions as what the British scholar and biochemist Joseph Needham called the "four great inventions of Ancient China": paper, the compass, gunpowder, and printing. Historically China's cultural sphere has been very influential in East Asia as a whole, with Chinese religion, customs, and writing system being adopted, to varying degrees, by its neighbors Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.
